Online
Committee
The Online Committee of the Health Sciences Society is committed to supporting the online Health Sciences student community, environment, and experience. The committee is responsible for representing online student interests, and fostering connection and community among online Health Sciences students, and between online students, on-campus students, and Queen’s faculty.
Initiatives
Incubator
The HSS Initiatives Incubator is a semester-long program that will be launched for its inaugural session in Winter 2023. A project under the Vice President of Operations portfolio, the Initiatives Incubator will provide up to three BHSc student groups with guided support, mentorship, and a $100 grant to develop a community service project from the ground up. Groups will be expected to produce one deliverable by the end of the program, such as an event, campaign, resource, etc. At the end of the term, groups will also have the opportunity to be considered for ratification as an official club under the Health Sciences Society.
Applications will open in early December with a deadline after the winter break. Applicants will be informed of the status of their application in early January.
Research
Workshops
The HSS Research workshops are an annual series of workshops by professors and professionals in the field who share their daily life, work, and journey. There are also opportunities throughout the workshops to get hands-on experience (for example, suturing workshops and how to code in R)!
These workshops aim to allow students to dip their toes in academia and learn more about different types of research.
At the end of the workshops, students who have attended all sessions will receive a certificate of completion signed by the co-director of our program, Dr. Adams, which can be used to acquire your own research positions.
HSS Formal
The formal committee is responsible for planning and coordinating all logistical components needed to host a successful spring HSS formal. It is our hope that this formal provides students with an opportunity to socialize with fellow classmates and to celebrate their accomplishments.
